Audits
When you’re deep in the day-to-day, it’s hard to step back and see the full picture of how your organization is communicating — what’s landing, what’s getting lost, and what might be missing altogether. That’s exactly what a communication audit is for.
We work alongside you and your team to gather every type of communication your organization produces — newsletters, reports, posters, blogs, and beyond. Using readability analysis tools, we assess the grade level and clarity of your written content to make sure it’s accessible to your target audience. We also review your website structure and navigation and take a close look at your social media presence.
But we don’t stop at the materials themselves. Through staff interviews and a gap analysis, we identify anything that might be falling through the cracks — messages that aren’t being sent, audiences that aren’t being reached, or opportunities that haven’t been recognized yet.
The result? A comprehensive report that walks you through everything we found, paired with clear, actionable recommendations to move your communications forward.
The Audit Process
Materials Review / Readability Assessment
Before we get started on the assessment, we ask the client for a list of all their communication channels.
Then, we request a sample of materials from the client to review. This includes items like brochures, posters, and memos.
Once we receive the materials, we perform a readability assessment to determine if the content is appropriate for the target audience.
Website Navigation Review
We review the client’s website navigation. This means we ask staff members who are not working on the project to try to find specific items. We time them and see what path they took to find the item to assess how easy the website is to navigate.
Social Media Review
We take a look at the recent social posts as well, including the analytics, to see what is working and what isn’t.
Surveys and Interviews
We put out a survey to staff, customers, or stakeholders to get information on communication practices.
How do they currently receive information?, how would they like to receive information?, etc. Then, once we have the results, we interview select people to get their input on specific items to better inform the plan.
Report
Finally we write the report. The final comprehensive document the client will receive with all of our findings, including recommendations. From here, we can move into the final plan.
